San Diego, CA — SuSE Linux, an international technology leader and solutions provider in open source operating system (OS) software, introduced their free test environment for the new 64-bit architecture. This environment is accessible through the Internet, allowing Application developers to test and adapt their Linux applications to the 64-bit-processor online.
By offering remote access to the compilefarm via the Internet, SuSE and Intel jointly support programmers in porting their Linux-applications to the IA 64-bit platform and its first processor, the Itanium.
Additionally, SuSE provides the preliminary version of the complete SuSE Linux 7.0 for iA-64 to be downloaded for free from its ftp server. SuSE Linux 7.0 for iA-64 is a complete operating system including a complete set of networking tools for programming and Internet/intranet applications for Linux. This offering, in conjunction with free access to the compilefarm, guarantees SuSE Linux applications will deliver 64-bit offerings simultaneously with Intel’s Itanium.
