San Mateo, CA — Fast Track Systems, Inc., an information technology company serving the clinical development community, announced that Marin Oncology Associates, Inc., of the California Cancer Research Network is the first clinical research center to begin using Fast Track’s industry-exclusive iCP (Intelligent Clinical Protocol) technology and related applications to improve their clinical trials processes.
In development for fifteen years at Stanford University’s Department of Medical Informatics, Fast Track’s technology provides a “Computer Assisted Design and Manufacturing” (CAD/CAM) model for clinical trials design and implementation. Much like CAD/CAM systems in manufacturing, the iCP offers pharmaceutical, biotechnology and device companies a technology that can be used to design and optimize trials using real-time simulation and modeling feedback. The Fast Track system then uses that design to generate all data required for trial execution workflow. This technology makes it possible for the first time to optimize, integrate and automate the trial process from protocol design to data base lock.
“I’m extremely impressed with the speed and ease by which the Fast Track team implemented this system,” said California Cancer Research Network’s Peter D. Eisenberg, MD. “After only a few days of use, the Fast Track system is already improving our ability to enroll trial patients.”
Jim McCord, President and CEO of Fast Track said, “The implementation of the Fast Track solution at California Cancer Research Network is a significant milestone that proves our advanced technology works in a clinical office setting. We are now in the process of implementing the iCP, our PDA-based screening and task management tools, and our web-browser applications at community and academic trial sites nationwide.”
Fast Track Systems, Inc. is working to reduce the time and costs of human clinical trials by applying advanced medical informatics technologies to what are currently labor-intensive, paper-based processes. The company believes its unique family of products and services will provide substantial benefits to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies who need to reduce the time and cost of trials for new drugs and devices.
Serving Northern California, the California Cancer Research Network enrolls over 200 patients in clinical trials yearly. The Marin Oncology division was the first to be certified by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and was one of the first community networks to participate in pharmaceutical trials.
