NEWS BRIEFS
Seattle, WASH. — MathSoft, Inc. announced that its Data Analysis Division has been selected to fulfill a two-year $750,000 search engine contract awarded by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency of the United States Department of Defense.
The company has developed a patent-pending, intelligent Web-based search agent for powering corporate Internet and Intranet sites. The search engine technology provides users with a smart and personalized search agent for Web navigation. It also performs in-depth semantic analysis of hundreds and thousands of documents in a few seconds. The agent uses inductive reasoning to learn the meanings of searched words, providing a tool for faster and more accurate Web searches.
MathSoft researchers will refine the base technology by increasing the agent’s ability to learn new words, interpret concepts, and develop multi-lingual search capabilities. Further, researchers will enhance an intuitive proprietary browser interface to make it easier for Web users to find the information they need.
“We have discovered a way to use statistical data mining technology to categorize related documents and provide more relevant search results than traditional search engines. Improved search engine technology will help users find relevant information more quickly and accurately. This technology will have a significant impact for content-driven businesses and Internet users,” says Shawn Javid, senior vice president and general manager, MathSoft, Inc.
MathSoft reports research income as a reduction of research and development expenses in its 10Q and 10K filings with the SEC.
A team of forty professional researchers with expertise in statistics, biostatistics, applied math, engineering, computer science and geophysics comprise MathSoft’s research group. Contracted research includes statistics, biostatistics, image and signal processing, time series analysis, and information retrieval. Selected research division clients include NIH, NASA, NSF, and DOD.
