Richmond, VA. — IDC at their HPC User Forum on September 18th and 19th plans to launch a new approach for assessing the capabilities of HPC computers. According the Earl Joseph, IDC Research Director, “HPC Users asked us to develop a better set of metrics for comparing the real capabilities of computers and in response we are launching the IDC2000 benchmark”.
The Forum takes place at the Jefferson Hotel, Franklin & Adams Streets, Richmond, VA. For reservations at discounted group rate, contact: Mary Rolph, [email protected] .
“During our first year, hpc@idc has built strong momentum as the premier organization dedicated to promoting the requirements and achievements of High Performance Computing (HPC) users. We invite members and nonmembers alike to attend the first annual meeting of hpc@idc in September. Following discussion at this key meeting, we will formally launch the effort to create the new IDC2000 standard performance benchmark, along with a customizable matrix benchmark tool for use in profiling user applications. Come learn about best practices in the HPC field and learn about what other users are accomplishing.”
We’ll also begin to address other topics that HPC users have identified as important:
∑ Mapping applications to architectures
∑ Learning what other HPC users are doing
∑ Tracking new HPC solutions (hardware, software, applications)
∑ The economics of HPC/supercomputing
∑ Leveraging technology in future R&D projects
∑ Leveraging HPC vendors, ISVs and academia
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
∑ hpc@idc members (no limit on number of attendees at Annual Meeting)
∑ Other members of the HPC community
∑ Anyone interested in the progress and future goals of HPC and supercomputing
