Albuquerque, NM — The University of New Mexico (UNM), an Alliance Partners for Advanced Computational Services (PACS) partner, is preparing for the grand opening of the LosLobos supercomputer, a Linux-based IBM supercluster that is now one of the Alliance’s computing resources. The 512-processor LosLobos supercluster marks a milestone in the growth of the Albuquerque High Performance Computing Center (AHPCC) at UNM and the advancement of an exciting technology. The grand opening and reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the AHPCC. Friendly user accounts are expected to be made on the supercluster starting with the September 2000 Alliance and PACI allocations meetings.
The grand opening is a special event of the five-day Linux Supercluster Users Conference, Sept. 11-15, which is jointly sponsored by UNM, the Alliance, and IBM.
At this user-oriented conference, leading innovators will talk about the state of Linux applications and performance, the building of high-performance clusters, and the use of performance analysis tools that help make codes run faster. Scientists and researchers will share their experiences running on the Linux supercluster. Users from academia, government labs, industry, and independent software vendors will present tutorials. Keynote speakers will be Jon “Maddog” Hall, executive director, Linux International; Dave Turek, vice president, Deep Computing, Web Servers, IBM; and Dan Reed, director, National Computational Science Alliance.
LosLobos was developed in collaboration with university, industry, and government communities. The supercluster is a significant step toward bringing highly capable, accessible and economical supercomputing to all. Just 18 months ago, UNM inaugurated Roadrunner, the first generation of production Linux superclusters.
