St. Louis, MO. — Wave Technologies International, Inc. announced it has been voted in as a member of The jCert Initiative, Inc. board. As a member, Wave, a global leader in courseware development and training for the information technologies industry, will support jCert’s goal of establishing common industry standards for the certification of Enterprise Developers using Java technology.
The jCert Initiative is a non-profit organization that was established in 1999 by BEA Systems, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Oracle, Sybase, Sun Microsystems and iPlanet in an effort to reduce redundancies in Java certification testing. As an open initiative, jCert has developed a certification road map that provides guidelines for training on the Java platform. By basing the road map on skill requirements, jCert has identified certification exams that evaluate generic Java skills and uses vendor-specific exams where vendor tools are important.
Susan Wisner, vice president of enterprise technology solutions for Wave, will serve on the jCert board. “Wave supports vendor-neutral certifications because they assess common skills and have proven to be strategic and efficient for corporations when training their IT staff. Java certification under jCert is no exception. Because Wave delivers seamless training solutions that support all vendor-neutral certifications, we’re committed to providing the marketing support necessary to promote The jCert Initiative’s Java certification program throughout the industry.”
Certification under jCert recognizes key knowledge sets for three levels of certification: Level I Certified Programmer, Level II Certified Solution Developer, and Level III Certified Enterprise Developer. Java professionals are required to pass five exams across these three levels, three exams that cover generic skills and two exams that cover vendor-specific technologies:
— Level I Certified Programmer for the Java Platform
— Exam 1 (common): Java Programming Language
— Level II Certified Solution Developer
— Exam 2A (common): Object Oriented Analysis and Design with UML
— Exam 2B (vendor specific): Application Development on the Java Platform
— Level III Certified Enterprise Developer
— Exam 3A (common): Enterprise Connectivity with Java Technology
— Exam 3B (vendor specific): Enterprise Development with an
Under the initiative, Wave has developed a 10-day boot camp that will prepare Java professionals to take and pass jCert’s common exam for Level I certification and the common and vendor-specific exams for Level II certification. Boot camp study materials also cover exam objectives for Level III certification. Enrollees will take the exams on site, and upon successful completion of the boot camp, they will earn their Level I Certified Programmer and Level II Certified Solution Developer certifications for the Java platform. Enrollment is currently underway for boot camps slated for December.
“As a global leader in certification training, Wave Technologies has always responded to the industry’s needs by bringing key certification training programs to the market,” said Ken Kousky, president and CEO of Wave Technologies. “With Java technology gathering momentum in the enterprise, the need for an extended pool of well-qualified, certified Java developers with a proven knowledge and skills set accepted throughout the industry has also grown.
