Incyte Genomics Selects Secant Server

September 15, 2000

NEWS BRIEFS

Cleveland, OHIO — Secant Technologies, Inc. announced that, after an extensive technology evaluation, Incyte Genomics, Inc., a leading genomic information company, has selected Secant’s Extreme Enterprise Server as a major element of its new Genomic Knowledge Platform, a unified software environment for bioinformatics research. Secant’s award-winning infrastructure software was selected as the foundation to rapidly develop, deploy and deliver Incyte’s unique human gene information to academic, biotechnology and pharmaceutical researchers around the world.

Secant’s application server technology is well suited for life sciences. Secant has tightly integrated its code generation technology with object modeling tools to dramatically reduce the time-to-market of large scale, database intensive applications. In addition, intelligent clustering, transaction, and data management services provide the vast scalability, performance, and fault tolerance required by systems like the Genomic Knowledge Platform.

Incyte and Secant are combining advances in science with advances in enterprise computing to revolutionize the way in which scientists conduct research and share information. “Secant’s technologies have been key to the success of our new Genomic Knowledge Platform enabling us to efficiently map complex biological models to our multiple genomic information sets,” said Roy Whitfield, Incyte’s chief executive officer.

“To provide tools powerful enough to study the breadth of human gene information, we needed an infrastructure to support a complex object model, vast scalability and extensive object-to-relational data management. When we evaluated the leading application servers, we found that Secant’s technologies were more advanced than everything else we considered,” said Lee Grover, vice president of software development of Incyte Genomics. “With Secant’s technology, we feel confident our applications can be deployed and managed on the broad scale we require.”

Secant has received numerous industry awards including Network Computing’s 2000 Well-Connected Award for Best Java Application Server, Oracle’s 1999 Top 50 List of e-Business Solution Providers, and a 1999 Editor’s Choice Award from Java Developer’s Journal. “Our technology has been generating a lot of excitement in the marketplace by winning a string of industry awards,” states Jim Holt, president of Secant. “But, we consider having customers like Incyte that base their key enterprise initiatives on our technology as our most significant award.” About Incyte
