Sacramento, CALIF. — NEC Computers Inc., a leading provider of world-class mobile, desktop and server computing solutions for the enterprise market, announced the Express5800/120Rc-2 server, a key component in NEC’s service-provider platform for fast-growing e-businesses. Also announced, NEC Computers’ service provider platform offers customers an all-in-one solution, including fibre channel storage from EMC Corp., rack systems from APC, factory hotload options for Red Hat Linux and new UltraCare installation services. This announcement underscores NEC Computers’ ongoing commitment to help enable customers get their business up and running quickly and cost effectively, offering a turnkey solution for customers implementing high-density, rack-mount computing systems.

NEC Computers’ new service provider platform features the dual-processor-capable Express5800/120Rc-2 server, a 2U rack system designed for superior levels of uptime. The system is powered by Intel Pentium III processors and supports a range of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server, and Red Hat Linux. Key service-provider platform options include an industry-standard APC rack (42U), which fits up to 21 Express5800/120Rc-2 servers, for a maximum of 42 processors; EMC CLARiiON FC5300 high-performance fibre channel storage; a factory hotload option for Red Hat Linux 6.2; and an APC uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for emergency battery backup.
The Express5800/120Rc-2 server is designed to deliver scalable performance, outstanding reliability and maximum uptime, with high-availability features including hot-swap hard-disk drives, power supplies and redundant cooling. A broad range of RAID board options is available to promote reliability and data integrity.
As part of the service provider platform, NEC Computers also offers two new installation services: the Rack Installation Service and NOS Installation Service. The rack installation service includes assembly and installation of all rack components and connection of the server into the customers’ networks, verification of the factory installed network operating system functionality, and diagnostic testing to verify hardware integrity and operability. The NOS installation service provides on-site installation and basic testing for selected operating systems Windows NT, Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server, Novell NetWare, SCO OpenServer and UnixWare that are not pre-installed at the factory.
