NEWS BRIEFS
Billerica, MASS. — OOC announced the start of the beta test program for ORBacus OTS, an implementation of the Object Management Group’s Object Transaction Service specification. “The CORBA Object Transaction Service is a proven industry standard, which expands the traditional transaction processing monitor model to object-oriented systems,” said Marc Laukien, President of OOC. “Built upon this standard, ORBacus OTS is the ideal solution for the coordination of software components in large-scale, distributed systems. ORBacus OTS is a critical building block for many modern telecom and e-commerce applications.”
“OOC is a long-term supporter and major driver of the CORBA standard,” said Richard Soley, Chairman and CEO of the Object Management Group. “The OMG is delighted to see another quality product from OOC enter the strong and growing CORBA market.”
An Object Transaction Service (OTS) allows software developers to concentrate on business logic without having to worry about error recovery. In case of an error, all updates made as part of a business transaction are undone automatically, so program code does not have to concern itself with undoing updates after partial failures. In addition, an OTS ensures consistency, atomicity, and integrity, which greatly simplifies programming in situations where many client need to access the same set of business data.
ORBacus OTS is free for non-commercial use, and includes full source. It is available for download from http://www.ooc.com/ots/ .
