NEWS BRIEFS
Chelmsford, MA — SKY Computers, Inc., a subsidiary of Analogic Corporation, announced that the Sensors Systems Division of BAE SYSTEMS of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom has chosen its AltiVec-based Merlin for rapid development of signal processing applications. SKY anticipates that once the 20 GFLOP dual Merlin prototyping system is thoroughly field-tested and approved by BAE SYSTEMS, it will spawn significant follow on revenue starting in 2001.
After reviewing the options available in the market BAE SYSTEMS chose Merlin for its advanced PowerPC AltiVec-based capabilities. SKY was the clear choice of suppliers because it was the only vendor who could deliver an AltiVec hosting platform for GEDAE, the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology software environment. GEDAE provides design engineers with the ability to graphically develop applications and to automatically generate code to run on multiprocessor systems. Combined with SKY Computers’ Merlin, GEDAE significantly improves the designer’s productivity and decision making.
Ed Hennessy, SKY vice president of world-wide sales and marketing comments, “BAE SYSTEMS is a key defence integrator that is critical to SKY’s target account program. BAE SYSTEMS is rigorous in their vendor selection. This win is a significant achievement for SKY, one which demonstrates our ability to provide both technically superior product and complete life cycle support. In particular, having BAE SYSTEMS choose SKY is yet another example of the market acceptance and adoption of our AltiVec-based products.”
