Palo Alto, CALIF. — Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce has given approval to Sun to export an update to its Solaris 8 Operating Environment that implements full 128+ bit encryption features. As a result of this approval, Sun is now able to provide its international customers the same level of encryption technology that is offered to its U.S. Customers.
“With the availability of this encryption technology for the Solaris 8 Operating Environment, the international benchmark for securing data has been significantly raised,” said Andy Ingram, Sun’s vice president of marketing for Solaris Software. The encryption bits packages are available for download at http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/encryption/ .
