Palo Alto, CALIF. — Hewlett-Packard Company announced it is delivering switched fabric (fabric login) for HP 9000 servers, strengthening HP’s long-standing leadership in fibre channel technology and Storage Area Networks (SANs). Through this technology, HP 9000 servers can now actively participate in switched SANs to deliver a flexible pool of storage that provides secure, maximum data availability and nearly infinite scalability for enterprises.
The switched fabric functionality is available with HP’s next-generation PCI tachlite fibre channel adapter for HP 9000 A-, L-, N- and V-Class servers running HP-UX 11.0. Switched fabric also will be available on HP’s new, ultra-scalable 64-way HP 9000 Superdome server with HP-UX11i. The adapter provides high performance, complete functionality and superior reliability for demanding and complex storage environments.
“For today’s storage requirements, enterprises demand the flexibility, scalability, reliability and manageability of switched fabric SANs,” said Mark Hudson, senior director of marketing for HP’s Business Critical Computing Business Unit.
HP provides a complete SAN solution that fully integrates storage subsystems, switches, host bus adapters and servers. HP’s world-class servers, combined with the company’s storage arrays, the HP SureStore E Disk Array XP256 and XP512, provide high-performance, highly available switched storage networks. Uptime for the storage architecture can be enhanced with HP’s high-availability tools such as MC/ServiceGuard. Moreover, with HP providing a complete SAN solution, customers can look to one convenient source for purchase, service and support.
HP is committed to the Open SAN Initiative to promote industry interoperability and is dedicated to offering customers choices in open, heterogeneous storage networking environments. The HP PCI fibre channel adapter interoperates with switches from Brocade Communications, McDATA Corporation and EMC Corporation, as well as with EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems.
