SCIENCE & ENGINEERING NEWS
Pittsburgh, PA. — Effective Oct. 1, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center’s 512-processor CRAY T3E, Jaromir, will become available to users nationwide through the National Science Foundation’s Partnerships for Advanced Computational Infrastructure program. Half of Jaromir’s time will be allocated through PACI.
Proposals for starter awards (10,000 PE-hours or less) should be submitted directly to the PSC Allocations group. See http://www.psc.edu/grants/grants.html for details. Requests for starter awards may be submitted at any time and are reviewed as they come in. Users should allow up to four weeks for these reviews.
Proposals for intermediate awards (10,000 to 100,000 PE-hours) will be reviewed by the National Computational Science Alliance’s Allocation Advisory Board. Please follow the procedure used by the Alliance ( http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/alliance/applying – follow the link to Alliance Allocations listed under the heading Points of Interest). The next round of reviews for intermediate awards has a submission deadline of Oct. 9, 2000. Awards approved in this round will become effective Jan. 1, 2001.
Proposals for large awards (more than 100,000 PE-hours) should be submitted through the PACI National Resource Allocation Committee process. See http://www.npaci.edu/Allocations/ or http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/alliance/applying for details. Several awards, effective Oct. 1, were allocated to PSC’s CRAY T3E at the September NRAC meeting. The deadline for the next round of reviews for large awards, to become effective April 1, 2001, is Jan. 8, 2001. The San Diego Supercomputer Center will manage this round of reviews for large awards via NRAC, and users should submit their requests in this category to the SDSC allocations department.
