San Francisco, CALIF. — Visual Numerics, Inc., a Boulder, Colo.-based developer of web enabled data visualization, numerical analysis and enterprise software solutions, today announced at Oracle OpenWorld here that it has ported PV-WAVE Database Connection to the Red Hat Linux operating system from Durham, NC-based Red Hat Software Company. PV-WAVE Database Connection previously supported only the Unix and Windows operating systems.
Representatives of Visual Numerics will be demonstrating PV-WAVE Database Connection, along with the company’s other products, at the Oracle OpenWorld exposition in San Francisco.
PV-WAVE Database Connection provides a direct link between an Oracle database and PV WAVE or JWAVE, Visual Numerics’ data visualization products for the desktop or throughout an enterprise, respectively. This link lets users execute standard SQL commands from within PV WAVE to extract data from Oracle and receive the query result as PV-WAVE variables. The Oracle data can then be processed, analyzed and visualized using PV-WAVE’s powerful visual data analysis capabilities.
PV-WAVE Database Connection also includes architectural improvements that dramatically reduce data retrieval time. Included in these improvements is a feature that lets users fine-tune the number of rows returned across the network at one time, allowing them to make the right tradeoffs between memory usage, blocked network processes, and query speed.
“The powerful combination of Oracle and Linux is increasingly becoming the platform of choice for many of our customers”, said Ed Kase, Visual Numerics’ director of worldwide marketing. “As such, we needed to make PV-WAVE Database Connection available for Linux. By directly integrating the data analysis and visualization functionality of PV-WAVE or JWAVE with their Oracle database on the Linux platform, we’ve made it possible for users to extract more meaning – and value – from their data.”
Privately held Visual Numerics provides data visualization and numerical analysis software tools to major corporations, academic institutions, and research laboratories worldwide. This large and diverse customer base is supported through a direct sales force, wholly-owned international subsidiaries and international distributors. Visual Numerics’ products include JWAVE for enterprise data analysis, PV-WAVE for desktop data analysis, iDecizion for business intelligence data analysis, INVIZION for time-series data analysis, and the IMSL Libraries for mathematical and statistical analysis.
