San Jose, CALIF. — Applied MetaComputing, a leading supplier of Grid operating software, helped kick off the first ever Peer-to-Peer (PtP) Working Group Meeting at the San Jose Hyatt in San Jose, California on October 12, 2000.
Over 300 individuals ranging from system integrators and application developers to independent software vendors and venture capitalists attended the first ever PtP Working Group Meeting to participate in establishing new standards in peer-to-peer computing. “We are very excited by the diverse mix of attendees that participated in the first ever PtP Working Group,” stated Bob Knighten, PtP Evangelist at the Intel Corporation. “It is great to see such a high level of interest and commitment from the high tech and business communities alike.”
Excitement around PtP has been building since Intel first announced the formation of the Peer-to-Peer Working Group last August at the Intel Developer Forum. “As someone who has spent a over a decade building advanced PtP/Distributed Computing platforms and applications for the Defense Department, NASA, the Department of Energy and others, it was wonderful to see such a large and diverse group focusing on what I have always believed to be the next frontier of computing,” stated Andrew Grimshaw, Applied MetaComputing’s President and Founder. “Peer-to-peer computing allows users to harness all networked resources, such as storage, data, applications and processing power, in ways that were previously impossible.”
