SGI APPOINTS URS VP OF BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
Mountain View, CALIF. — SGI announced that Desh R. Urs has been appointed vice president of Business Intelligence, SGI. He will report to Kenneth L. Coleman, executive vice president of Global Sales, Service and Marketing, SGI. Urs, 43, is responsible for leading SGI’s efforts to provide business intelligence solutions to the marketplace. He will also manage the MineSet(TM) data mining product organization and the FISC center. MineSet is an integrated suite of software tools for data mining and data visualization. The Financial Industry Solutions Center is a joint venture between SGI and Cornell University in New York, established for collaborative research in computational finance focused on business and risk management analysis for the financial services industry. “With our industry-leading NUMAflex server platform, MineSet data mining product and strong partnerships, SGI is uniquely positioned to provide real value to customers in this arena,” said Coleman. “Desh has a solid background in creating solutions, building partnerships and helping business leaders gain insight through the real-time analysis of big data.”
Urs comes to SGI with many years of experience in building revenue organizations focused on deploying solutions in business intelligence, health care, telecommunications and direct marketing. Most recently he was vice president of Global Alliances at Brio Technology in Santa Clara, Calif. There he led a team of professionals in sales, marketing, business development and strategic planning worldwide. Earlier, Urs was a business development executive at Acxiom Corporation, the global leader in real-time, multichannel customer data integration (CDI). “I am looking forward to helping SGI build an industry-leading organization in business intelligence,” Urs said. “This is an exciting time to help SGI take the lead in this highly strategic area.” Urs has an M.B.A. in marketing and finance from the University of Miami and an M.B.A. in consumer behavior and market research from Xavier Institute of Social Service.
HEDRICK NAMED CTO OF TIMPANOGAS RESEARCH GROUP

ADRIAN KING JOINS BITMICRO NETWORKS ADVISORY BOARD

King was a pioneer with Microsoft Corporation when he joined the fledgling company in 1984 as the XENIX Product Manager. He later assumed the position of Director of Operating Systems Products where he was responsible for the product development and management of the early versions of Microsoft operating systems, including MS DOS, Windows/386 and OS/2. Under his tenure, he was also tasked with the introduction of several of Microsoft’s major systems software products and acted as liaison with the computer publication press for many of Microsoft systems products. He has also served with Microsoft as Assistant General Manager of the Networking Products Unit. King is presently the Chief Technology Officer of Satellite Marketing, Inc. He has also authored ‘Inside Windows 95’, the official design expose of the product for Microsoft Press. The book has been translated into 19 languages, has sold over 300,000 copies worldwide and has been awarded the prestigious Excellence Award by the Society for Technical Communications. He was also Vice-President of Engineering for Artisoft from 1991-92 and was responsible for all product design, development, test and management activities for the makers of LANtastic which at that time was the leading LAN product for small and medium sized businesses and was consistently the winner of the highly coveted PC Magazine Editor’s Choice award for its product category.
