San Diego, CALIF. — VRCO, Inc. will use the forum of the Venture Village at SC2000 to announce the release of its latest software product, the Virtual Global Explorer and Observatory or vGeo. vGeo is an interactive and immersive visual analysis tool designed to support collaborative scientific exploration and knowledge discovery using high-resolution virtual reality display systems. The vGeo package allows the user to navigate through and interact with a time-varying, 3-D world constructed from topographic measurements, large archived data observations and computer simulations, real-time streaming output from remote instrumentation, images, and model objects. Users are able to share their view within the virtual environment with remote users located at different geographic locations. A simple avatar represents each user within the world and their position and orientation in the world are represented according to the tracking information shared between participants. Voice communication between participants is provided using standard digital audio over the Internet.
vGeo supports conversion to the following types of graphical objects: colored slices and surfaces, colored glyphs, 3-D isosurfaces, velocity vectors, contour slices, textured surfaces, static and moving models, polylines, and text annotations. Key features of vGeo include: multiple local time and space definitions, interactive graphical object construction widgets, interactive data manipulation widgets, save-restore state capabilities, real-time animation and navigation controls, grouping of data or graphical objects into single entity, digital clock, and Cartesian or spherical projections. Support for the SEDRIS Data Representation Model will also be available. vGeo runs on SGI equipment and the system requirements depend on the complexity of the data sets to be analyzed and the type of display device being used (workstation, 1-, 2-, 3-, or 4-wall displays, stereo or non-stereo, tracked or non-tracked). As vGeo splits the data conversion, graphical object construction, and visualization activities between multiple processes, a multi-processor machine is strongly recommended.
Formed in 1996, VRCO is a worldwide leader in virtual reality (VR) based technology and services. Our mission is to enable cost-effective visual analysis of data, by applying our Visualization, Interaction, Collaboration, and Immersion (VICI) principles. This theme is reflected throughout our product line, which includes device drivers, software development toolkits, shrink-wrapped applications and customized services. VRCO software transforms data into useful information and allows networked collaboration among its users. Such enhanced capabilities can considerably reduce development costs and increase productivity for companies with digital assets and multiple locations. VRCO products are configurable to a variety of networked platforms ranging from high- end, multi-wall immersive display devices to commodity workstations.
