NEWS BRIEFS LIVEwire
Dallas, Texas – Etnus, the leading supplier of parallel application debuggers for the high performance computing community, today announced that the TotalView debugger/analyzer was selected for use on Hitachi SR8000 high performance computing systems, three of which are ranked in the top ten on the TOP500 Supercomputer Sites list compiled by the University of Mannheim and University of Tennessee.
“TotalView was initially designed for use on supercomputers,” comments Chris Doelhert, president and CEO of Etnus. “We continue to expand our presence and reach into the High Performance Computing community. Clearly good software development tools are viewed as critical components to systems purchased for software development.”
Hitachi SR8000 systems are currently installed in the Leibniz Rechenzentrum in Munich, Germany, High Energy Accelerator Research Organization in Tsukaba, Japan and the University of Tokyo in Tokyo, Japan. The German system is the fastest supercomputer in Europe and ranked fifth on the TOP500 list. Ranked sixth on the TOP500 list and the top performing system in Japan is the Hitachi 100-processor system at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization.
“I am very happy to see the release of TotalView for Hitachi’s SR8000 and proud to be the prime distributor of the product. Having TotalView as the debugger of choice on Hitachi systems confirms that TotalView is the globally acceptable debugger for critical software development,” comments Kiichiro Takeda, CEO of SofTek Systems.
The SR8000 Series, or Super Technical Server, is the successor to Hitachi’s vector supercomputer S-3000 and parallel computer SR2201.The first Hitachi SR8000 system was installed at the Institute of Statistical Mathematica at in Tokyo in December 1998. Since then, Hitachi has installed other SR8000 systems resulting in their obtaining 44% share in the Japanese high performance market.
TotalView is the only multiprocess, multithread application debugger/analyzer that supports Fortran, C and C++ languages along with the major parallel programming paradigms including MPI, threads, and OpenMP. GUI-based, it shortens development time via an easy-to-learn and easy-to-use “select-and-dive” approach. It enables developers to unravel and control multiple threads and processes running on single or multiple processor systems.
