Dallas, Texas — SGI, known worldwide for providing a broad range of high-performance computing and advanced graphics solutions, today announced general availability of the Gigabyte System Network(TM) (GSN(TM)) from SGI. Also known as HIPPI-6400, the GSN solution from SGI represents the industry’s highest performance networking technology.
“GSN technology from SGI sets the high-water mark as the highest bandwidth and lowest latency standards based networking technology available,” said Jan Silverman, vice president of Marketing, Computer Systems Business Unit, SGI. “The availability of this highest ever performance network reinforces our dedication to maintaining our leadership in high-performance computing.”
GSN technology from SGI has been heralded as the ideal solution for companies requiring timely and efficient movement of large amounts of information, such as scientific and technical computing, data mining, transaction processing, and storage management. The GSN technology from SGI features a reliable, flow-controlled transmission of user data up to 800MB-per-second full duplex, more than eight times faster than Fibre Channel, ATM OC12, Gigabit Ethernet and HIPPI. GSN also offers adapter latencies under 10 microseconds and is extremely efficient in CPU utilization.
GSN technology from SGI also provides current HIPPI customers with a migration path by consolidating multiple HIPPI connections with a single GSN interface. Measured at eight times the bandwidth of Gigabit Ethernet, GSN is also an exceptional technology for consolidating multiple Gigabit Ethernet connections with a single GSN interface. GSN is the only network capable of providing the bandwidth necessary for the film and video industry’s migration to digital studios and HDTV.
SGI will be demonstrating its GSN technology at Booth 550 at Supercomputing 2000, November 4-10 in Dallas.
