NEWS BRIEFS LIVEwire
Dallas, Texas – Linux NetworX, Inc. announced today the integration of BRU(TM) Backup & Restore Utility into its Evolocity(TM) cluster solutions to provide the highest level of network data storage backup available. BRU is an award winning backup software solution for Linux systems from Enhanced Software Technologies, Inc. (EST).
Evolocity cluster systems include computational hardware, ClusterWorX(TM) management software, RapidFlow(TM) 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet Switch, applications, and storage, including the BRU backup utility.
BRU was chosen to support Evolocity cluster systems because of its proven ability to protect critical data through fully verified backups, ensuring accurate data is written to the archive. BRU can immediately verify the backup online by using the AUTOSCAN(TM) feature, or, should the backup window not allow for online verification, Anytime Verify(TM) can be used to verify the backup at a later time, even on a different system.
The reliability of tape device technology today is extremely high, but the potential for errors on the tapes following the writing of the archive can still occur in some cases. BRU has the ability to effectively detect and recover from errors when reading a tape to allow successful completion of the restore.
“Without verified backups, there is no assurance that your data can be restored correctly in the event something goes wrong,” said Clark Roundy, vice president of Linux NetworX.” “The addition of this reliable network data storage backup utility demonstrates the commitment Linux NetworX has made to provide the most reliable cluster solutions.”
“The term cluster creates the image of aggregate systems doing important work. Important work involves important data, and BRU is the proven performer to manage the backup requirements of important applications,” said Bob Christ, vice president of marketing at EST. “We’re pleased BRU was chosen by Linux NetworX to support the backup requirements of their cluster systems.”
Organizations that will specifically benefit from Linux NetworX clusters, integrated with BRU, include high-end Application Service Providers (ASPs), Web hosting centers and e-commerce backbone providers as well as traditional high-end research, scientific and government markets. All customers in these industries share common needs for large amounts of data computation, data handling and/or storage, high-speed communication and high levels of reliability, flexibility and availability.
Linux NetworX is a leading provider of large-scale clustered computer solutions for Internet, industry and research fields. Cluster technology is a method of linking multiple computers, or compute modules, together to form a powerful, unified system.
