Dallas, Texas — VRCO announces the demonstration and release of VRScape(tm) 2.0 at the SC2000 convention being held at the Dallas Convention Center. VRScape 2.0 is the first multi-platform fully immersive collaboration and interaction application. Users of immersive systems can interact with immersive or desktop users on the SGI, Sun, Windows NT or Linux platforms, or any combination of those platforms. VRScape executes the essential aspects of VR, including flexible model loading, several types of navigation and interaction, easy-to-use configuration files, high-level network interaction, and much more. VRScape can load standard 3D models from a wide variety of modeling, engineering and CAD programs with minimal effort and allows non-programmers to create virtual worlds that can be explored on high-end VR displays or desktop monitors.
“VRScape allows users to interact and collaborate with users around the world, using anything from a PC on up.” says Todd Yocum, Senior Software Engineer for VRCO. “It is especially interesting to be able to use a laptop and to interact with someone using a large visualization device, like a CAVE(tm).” VRScape is based on the cross platform version of the CAVELib, trackd, and OpenRM(tm) from R3Vis (www.r3vis.com). VRScape for HP-UX is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2001.
While VRScape provides the basic features for using VR within existing business framework, it is also easily customized to meet your exact needs and challenges. This makes it easy to integrate visualization and collaboration without adopting new levels of VR infrastructure. VRCO offers full support for VRScape and can tailor a VRScape application to fit within your existing systems, software and practices.
