NEWS BRIEFS
Albuquerque, N.M. — MUSE Technologies, a leading provider of data visualization and perceptual computing software and solutions, will demonstrate projects developed for the US Navy and Royal Air Force at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando, Florida, November 27-30. The conference, considered the leading event of its type, is attended by experts in the field of training delivery systems from the armed services, computer industries, academia and federal communities.
In a breakthrough integration of 3D graphics and PC technology, MUSE’s Virtual Presence subsidiary will demonstrate a “virtual” training system developed with Alenia Marconi Systems for the Royal Air Force’s Tornado F3 jet fighter program. The RAF uses the system to simultaneously train as many as eight students in basic and advanced Tornado avionics maintenance routines, significantly reducing training time while increasing student spatial and procedural knowledge of the complex aircraft.
Visitors to Booth 1512 at the Orlando event will see how RAF trainees freely explore a virtual Tornado aircraft, actuate all moving surfaces as well as connect realistic test equipment to internal and external aircraft subsystems. Full cockpit details for both the pilot and navigator positions are available and include geometric and operable representations of toggle switches, safety covers, rotary switches, push buttons, pedals, throttles and joysticks.
Also being shown is a software application developed by MUSE for the US Navy in which perceptual computing technology is being used to help Naval decision-makers gain more understanding of complex exercise data by recreating and analyzing ship, submarine and aircraft movements during seaborne drills.
Designed to enhance the Navy’s Surface Warfare Development Group’s (SWDG) analysis of Anti-submarine Warfare and Mine Warfare exercises, the custom PC-based application reconstructs military exercise data using 3D graphics, providing users with the ability to stop, advance or reverse time to better understand the results of a tactical encounter and scrutinize details that might otherwise be overlooked.
