NEWS BRIEFS
Fremont, CALIF. — The MPLS Forum, an industry-wide association of leading networking and telecommunication companies focused on accelerating the deployment of multi-vendor MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks and associated applications, announced the appointment of two working group leaders that will help advance the interoperability and deployment mission of the Forum. The Forum also announced that its next Technical Committee meeting will be held on December 7-8, 2000 in San Diego, California.
During the Technical Committee meeting in September 2000, member companies agreed to create two new working groups: the Interoperability Working Group and the Applications and Deployment Working Group.
Vijay Aggarwal, chief technical officer at Gotham Networks, was appointed as leader for the Interoperability Working Group. This group will focus on interoperability and conformance testing programs, including such items as functional test plans, conformance requirements documents, and implementation agreements that will reduce the large number of options in the MPLS standards to allow vendors and service providers to implement fully interoperable MPLS networks and associated applications.
Rao Cherukuri, senior consulting engineer at Lucent Technologies, was appointed as leader for the Applications and Deployment Working Group. This group will focus on defining MPLS deployment scenarios, address network management issues related to MPLS provisioning, and document the base level options required to deliver applications over MPLS. This working group will also develop implementation agreements on an as required basis to support these focus areas.
The MPLS Forum will host its next Technical Committee meeting on December 7-8, 2000 at the Westgate Hotel in San Diego, California. This meeting will build upon the success of the prior meetings and will include plenary sessions for all members to attend, break out sessions focused on specific work items within the Interoperability Working Group and the Applications and Deployment Working Group, as well as updates from recent MPLS interoperability and performance testing events. The technical committee meeting is open to member companies only. Details on becoming a member company of The MPLS Forum are available at http://www.mplsforum.org/ .
