NEWS BRIEFS
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. — Syncsort Incorporated, a leading provider of high performance data warehousing software, announced the official certification of Backup Express, it’s enterprise-wide backup and restore solution, on the latest StorageTek library and tape technologies.
Backup Express is now certified on StorageTek’s new L700 and L180 tape libraries, offering high-end capacity and performance as well as SAN connectivity. In addition, Backup Express is now certified with both the 9840 and 9840FC Fibre Channel enabled tape drives, providing high-speed access, high storage density and Fibre Channel connectivity to fully exploit the latest SAN technologies.
“The combination of StorageTek’s newest libraries and tape drives gives users unsurpassed data availability and protection,” says Vic Werner, director of marketing at Syncsort. “The speed and storage capacity of the 9840s as well as their mid-tape mount give customers the access they need along with the speed and reliability they demand.”
Combining Backup Express with StorageTek’s libraries will allow users great flexibility in backing up their environment. With Backup Express’ SAN Resource Sharing (SRS), drives in the library are dynamically allocated and deallocated as they are needed, helping to leverage the hardware investment while providing the greatest access to data.
Syncsort’s Backup Express is an advanced, enterprise-wide backup and restore solution for UNIX, Windows NT and NetWare operating systems. It also supports SANs, NDMP/NAS, and Windows 2000. The product allows customers to put backup devices on UNIX, NT, and NetWare while maintaining a single, central catalog on UNIX or Windows NT for the entire enterprise. Backup Express can cluster tape drives, including large automated libraries, at any server on the enterprise, NT or UNIX, keep sensitive data off the network, and allow on-line backups of large database servers such as Oracle, SAP, MS Exchange, and SQL Server.
StorageTek is the only global information storage provider to use “Open, Intelligent and Integrated” solutions to promote the efficient use of critical information and remove the information management constraints that inhibit business growth. StorageTek competencies – tape and tape automation, virtual storage, and open SANs (storage area networks) – effectively manage the explosion of information and save time, money, and resources. StorageTek, with headquarters in Louisville, Colo., reported revenue of $2.4 billion in 1999. Information on StorageTek is available at http://www.storagetek.com .
