Buzzsaw.com Joins EMC Proven Program

San Francisco, CALIF. — Buzzsaw.com, Inc. committed to creating an online standard for the $3.9 trillion global building design and construction industry, announced that EMC Corporation, a world leader in information storage, has named the Company to its EMC Proven program. The EMC Proven designation signifies Buzzsaw.com’s successful ability to store, access, manage, share and protect large amounts of complex and vital information for its customers.

The EMC Proven Program identifies Internet-based businesses that have invested in the best practices for enterprise storage and information infrastructure and signifies that a company has implemented an IT infrastructure able to support the operational needs of an Internet-based business or service. Customers and investors of EMC Proven members have confidence knowing that the necessary enterprise storage resources have been implemented to operate at peak efficiency, adapt to a constantly changing business climate and easily manage Internet-driven growth.

Some of the specific functionalities of Buzzsaw.com’s EMC Proven information infrastructure is disaster protection, global data migration and vaulting; and global content and site replication. Customers also can rely on second instance reporting and data warehouse loading as well as data corruption protection. Additionally, the Buzzsaw.com’s infrastructure provides non-disruptive enterprise, centralized, high performance back up and restoration that is available 24 x 7 and is scalable on demand.

“This designation is a validation of our best thinking and our deep commitment to ensuring the security and dependability of our systems,” said Shirley Foster, vice president of engineering at Buzzsaw.com. “Our users entrust us with millions of dollars worth of projects – on which their reputations depend. EMC’s information infrastructure allows Buzzsaw.com to manage each of its customers’ data, ensuring its security and quick response to customer requests for restoring data. Many other online management companies manage customer data through a third party vendor.

The EMC Enterprise Storage Network is one of several key technology investments Buzzsaw.com has made to build a meaningful, dependable and safe infrastructure on which customers can depend. All of the Buzzsaw.com collaboration services are built on an easy-to-use, seamlessly scalable environment, powered by a backend technology that couples leading partner technologies with industry-customized development by Buzzsaw.com’s experienced staff. Adding to the smart configuration is the adaptability – Buzzsaw.com’s fully integrated infrastructure is at once stable, powerful and secure, while allowing for continual upgrades and changes to best fit changes in technology and market demands.

Highlights on Buzzsaw.com’s investments in its infrastructure include:

Storage – Buzzsaw.com installed an EMC E-Infostructure in 1999 – able to handle as much as 12.3 terabytes (trillion bytes) of data. Customer growth and the expansion of services are already prompting plans at the company to expand the storage. The system is fully mirrored, meaning there are at least two copies of all the data at any given time. And, at regular intervals, the system takes a “snapshot” of the data as an extra precaution.

Openness — Buzzsaw.com has focused on developing and integrating, proven technology based on industry standards including J2EE, XML and LDAP. Buzzsaw.com is a board member of the International Alliance for Interoperability, an organization working to set global standards to enable an effective means of exchanging information. Key technology partners include, BEA Systems, TIBCO, Webmethods, iPlanet (a Sun/Netscape alliance) Sun Microsystems and Oracle.

Scalability — Buzzsaw.com’s technology infrastructure is architected to efficiently scale as new requirements are placed on it by new service offerings and the demands of customers. This scalability is achieved by a layered software and hardware infrastructure and by the use of a state of the art messaging infrastructure.
