MultiGen-Paradigm & The Design Exchange Team Up

San Jose, CALIF. — MultiGen-Paradigm, the leading developer of realtime 3D solutions, announced that the DXNet Advanced Visualization Centre, located at the Design Exchange in Toronto, is using MultiGen-Paradigm’s urban simulation tools and technology to create a virtual Toronto for the city’s 2008 Olympic bid (TO-2008).

MultiGen-Paradigm’s realtime 3D capabilities will give Toronto a significant competitive edge when presenting the city as an ideal venue for the Games. This project also marks MultiGen-Paradigm’s continued role as a pioneer in the visual simulation industry and its commitment to bring realtime 3D to new markets.

“We have partnered with the Design Exchange, which is helping TO-2008 fulfill its goal of becoming the host city for the 2008 Olympic Games,” said Jon Zucker, urban simulation/GIS market manager for MultiGen-Paradigm. “The Design Exchange has assembled a team of talented professionals who are building an incredible realtime 3D model of the city. TO-2008 will use this virtual reality tour to present the bid to various groups including the International Olympic Committee, international sports federations and international media.”

TO-2008 believes this realtime 3D model of the Olympic venues and the city will help put it over the top in its bid to host the 2008 Games. The other cities bidding for the 2008 Games are Beijing, Istanbul, Osaka and Paris.

“We feel that our partnership with MultiGen-Paradigm will give the city of Toronto the competitive edge it needs to win this bid,” said Alice Lee, director of business development for the DXNet Advanced Visualization Centre. “The realtime 3D capabilities of our model will stand out from the competition and allow the International Olympic Committee to have a more realistic view of the proposed Olympic site and its advanced design.”

“The virtual reality model is an excellent tool for us to plan for the location and design of venues to ensure consistency with the City of Toronto’s long-term plans,” said Ana Kirkham, TO-2008 vice president, finance and operations. “It will help us to ensure a risk-free bid and provide a long-lasting and multi-application legacy for the Toronto and greater Toronto area business community. We are grateful to MultiGen-Paradigm and the Design Exchange for their exceptional work on this project.”

The realtime 3D model was unveiled for public display today at the Design Exchange in Toronto and will be used during formal bid presentations to various groups. The selection of the host city for the 2008 Olympic Games will be announced on July 13, 2001 at the International Olympic Committee session in Moscow, Russia.

The DXNet AVC is Canada’s premier broadband design portal, online resource and 3D design showcase. Housed in the Design Exchange, it includes opportunities for online showcasing, a private network with collaboration and project management, and virtual reality showcasing. The Design Exchange (DX) is the only design promotion centre of its kind in North America. DX is a not-for-profit educational organization committed to promoting greater awareness of design as well as the indispensable role it plays in fostering economic growth and cultural vitality. DX is located at 234 Bay Street in the former Toronto Stock Exchange building.

TO-2008 is a non-profit organization working to bring the 2008 Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and Cultural Festival to Toronto. Since its inception, TO-2008 has involved athletes, youth, the community, businesses and individuals eager to see Toronto host the Olympic Games. TO-2008 is strongly supported by Torontonians, Ontarians and Canadians, as well as all three levels of government.
