NEWS BRIEFS
Loveland, COLO. — Terra Soft Solutions, Inc., a leading developer of Linux solutions for PowerPC microprocessors, announces the iDitarod, a portable PowerPC Linux cluster.
The iDitarod is a small, affordable, portable PowerPC Linux multiple-node solution. An 8 node system is roughly 20″ on a side, 24″ tall (including its 4 wheels) and 150 lbs. iDitarod is offered with 8, 12, or 16 rack-mounted nodes and includes a high-performance 100 Mb managed switch.
iDitarod is built-to-order, pre-installed and configured for each customer. As a parallel cluster, code can be first developed on the iDitarod and then readily transported to a larger Apple G4, RS/6000, CSPI, or other PowerPC Linux cluster. As an ISP/server solution, iDitarod may function in two halves, each with a dedicated node for HTTP, FTP, email, and database services, while the remaining 4 nodes may offer a mirror and fail-safe, roll-over system. Each iDitarod is ready for operation upon delivery.
“This is a flexible solution, a unique product that may be used in a number of environments and situations. We enjoy meeting the creative challenge of our customers’ requirements with each iDitarod,” states Kai Staats, CEO, Terra Soft Solutions, Inc.
The logic boards are offered with G3 or AltiVec-enabled G4 chips, 333-500 MHz, 128-512 MB RAM per node. iDitarod may be ordered with Yellow Dog Linux, Black Lab Linux, or even Mac OS 9 pre-installed and running within Mac-On-Linux.
eLinux, a reseller for Terra Soft Solutions Yellow Dog and Black Lab Linux products, will maintain an exclusive reseller offering of iDitarod through the end of December. “We are excited to introduce the first integrated hardware and Linux software clustering solution to eLinux,” stated Dan DeVries, CEO of eLinux, “and we are pleased to see PowerPC Linux represented at this level.” For more information, visit http://www.elinux.com .
