NEWS BRIEFS
Bothell, WASH. — Vixel Corporation announced the opening of its new solutions and interoperability lab at its Bothell, Washington headquarters.
The new lab was constructed to streamline the process of certifying Vixel’s multivendor Storage Area Networking (SAN) solutions, and to leverage the Fibre Channel switch interoperability standards that are nearing ratification by the ANSI T11 standards body. In addition to a dedicated staff of systems engineers and a broad array of networking and storage equipment, the company is using cooperative exchange agreements with industry leading storage providers to bring a wide range of partners’ storage products into the facility.
“Our new lab will serve as a center where Vixel interoperability systems engineers can work collaboratively with our vendor partners and their latest products to ensure that the storage solutions we offer to our resellers and OEM’s work seamlessly in the end user environment,” said Edmund J. Reilly, Vice President of Customer Support and Professional Services for Vixel. “Ultimately, this means faster, more reliable implementations and faster time to market for the high performance SAN solutions we offer.”
In addition, the new lab will extend Vixel’s existing engineering test facilities to create a wider variety of field application scenarios to accelerate the interoperability of its high performance Fibre Channel switches with competitors’ switching products. “The new Fibre Channel switch interoperability standards offer us a tremendous opportunity to sell our products into SANs currently employing competing switches, and end users will soon be able to take advantage of the high value proposition associated with Vixel’s switches,” said Jim McCluney, Vixel’s President and CEO. “With the addition of this new lab facility and staff we are well positioned to deliver switch interoperability and capitalize on the opportunities it carries for Vixel.”
Partner participation in the cooperative equipment exchange program for Vixel’s Solutions and Interoperability Lab has already brought products and solutions from numerous industry leading storage vendors into the new lab, including LSI Metastor, Land 5, Network Appliance, Spectralogic, Quantum ATL, StorageTek, Exabyte, Veritas, Legato, JNI, Interphase, Eurologic, QLogic and Computer Associates.
