By offering MSC.Nastran on Linux, MSC.Software and SGI make their powerful computer-aided engineering and advanced graphics solutions available to a wider market through powerful Intel Itanium servers.
MSC.Nastran is used in numerous industries to analyze and improve both simple and complex designs – from wheel bearings and bass guitars to planes, trains and automobiles. The results from MSC.Nastran are so trusted that airplane manufacturers use the results to get FAA certification. MSC.Nastran’s availability on the open-source Linux platform enables MSC.Software to address the critical design needs of companies that rely on this stable and reliable operating system.

MSC.Software is porting MSC.Software products to the new Intel Itanium processor. SGI is making MSC.Nastran available on SGI servers based on Pentium III processors and Linux operating system, releasing the powerful simulation tool on the new Intel Itanium 64-bit chip.
“This relationship will allow SGI to participate in the MSC.Nastran development and optimize system performance on Itanium processor-based Linux clusters, as we have in the IRIX operating system running on a MIPS processor environment,” said Ken Jacobsen, vice president of ISV Partner Programs at SGI. “SGI has had an excellent, long-standing relationship with MSC.Software and we look forward to working together to provide outstanding performance on SGI servers based on Linux.”
