NEWS BRIEFS
New York, N.Y. — Tower Technology Corporation, the leading Java Performance Solutions Provider, has launched another first with the availability of its TowerJ Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for Intel’s new family of Itanium processors for server-class computers. Companies now have a cost-effective solution available for deploying high-performance mission-critical Java-based systems.
Tower has pioneered Java performance enhancing technology, launching the first Java Virtual Machine to provide C++ like performance for Java applications. Tower customers have experienced performance improvements of 200 to 500 percent for their e-Business applications. TowerJ is the only JVM that delivers high levels of performance, scalability, manageability, reliability, and security across eight different server platforms. The company was first to use ahead-of-time compilation technology, and the first to deliver mixed-mode deployment run-time technology for dynamic updating of executionables. Additionally, Tower was the first server-side JVM clone vendor to receive a Java license from Sun. Recently, the company announced the first Professional Services Organization focused on assessing and optimizing server-side Java performance and scalability.
Intel’s Itanium processor includes new features for high-end scalability, reliability and availability. It complements and extends Intel’s existing Pentium III Xeon processors, reaching into the highest levels of computing to enable powerful servers and high-performance workstations to address the increasing demands that the Internet economy places on e-Businesses.
“TowerJ on Itanium architecture is ideal for deploying Java based server applications,” said Michael Pope, Director Solutions Development, Intel Corporation. “Itanium architecture is designed for high performance computing. The TowerJ JVM is targeted to deliver optimized performance for Java based applications. Organizations developing and deploying Java-based e-Business sites will greatly benefit from using this powerful combination. Businesses can enjoy shortened development cycles, deliver products to market faster, and lower development and deployment costs, all while increasing performance and scalability.”
At the recent Intel Exchange 2000 Conference, Tower demonstrated TowerJ running an application stack that included a sample e-Business site based on the Lutris Enhydra Application Server and TurboLinux Operating System running on an Intel Itanium Server.
“When companies see `Intel Inside’ they know to expect quality and reliability,” commented Madison Cloutier, vice president of marketing for Tower Technology Corporation. “It’s very exciting to be the first Java performance solutions company to support Intel’s Itanium processor based servers. We’ve been in the Java business since 1996, and are recognized in the industry as a leader in Java performance management. We look forward to leveraging our expertise to help enterprises and ISVs targeting Java-based applications for Intel’s new server line. General availability for the TowerJ JVM for Intel Itanium Servers is Q1 2001.
Originally founded in 1992 and focusing on Java performance solutions since 1996, Tower Technology Corporation has emerged as a leading provider of Java performance products and services. Tower was one of the first companies to recognize the role Java could play in the development and deployment of middle-tier enterprise servers. Tower was the first company to deliver technology that allowed applications written in Java to run on a variety of server-class computer systems at C++ like performance.
