NEWS BRIEFS
Orlando, FLA. — USA Digital announced that its subsidiary CAT Computers, located in Gainesville, Florida, has successfully designed and furnished a high-speed integrated hardware solution for EraGen Biosciences, an international biotechnology company.
Phase one of the new Supercomputer provided by CAT Computers consists of one hundred (100) Intel Pentium III processors working together as a single computer. EraGen’s CEO, Gideon Shapiro, stated that the cluster was built “for roughly a tenth of the price” of a traditional high-performance computing environment. The system’s processing speed is approximately 70,000 MHz – allowing EraGen to complete what used to take almost a year worth of computing time in less than four days. The seven-foot tall by six-foot wide Supercomputer is completely modular allowing for easy maintenance and repair. The system will continue to grow as EraGen intends to double the size of its Supercomputer over the next calendar quarter.
EraGen Biosciences, headquartered in Alachua, Florida, is a late-stage private genomics company developing bioinformatics and drug-screening platforms and nucleic acid and genotyping technologies for clinical diagnostic and life science research applications.
“To date EraGen has purchased several hundred thousand dollars worth of computer equipment from CAT Computers, and based on EraGen’s forecasts, we anticipate a significant revenue stream in the future as EraGen deploys its MasterCatalog,” stated Peter J Lyons CEO of USA Digital. Lyons also stated, “We are very proud of Jim Estaver and his team at CAT for the innovative way they have integrated leading-edge hardware technology into this Supercomputer solution for EraGen. Another one of our subsidiaries, Communication Systems, Inc., provided EraGen with their server-based communications system proving that our ‘one stop shopping’ strategy of being able to provide the enterprise marketplace with all of its computer and communications needs is working.”
USA Digital, Inc. ( http://www.usa-digital.com ) is a rapidly growing, highly integrated communications provider utilizing a roll-up/acquisition strategy that will address the rapidly expanding communication demands of small- to medium-sized businesses.
