Boulder, CO — Ecrix Corporation and Fujitsu Limited (TSE: 6702) today announced that Ecrix’s award-winning VXA-1 tape drive is available on Fujitsu’s GP-S Family and PRIMEPOWER (Formerly GP7000F) UNIX Servers. Nipponsystem House, Co., Ltd., the first distributor in Japan for Ecrix products, will supply Fujitsu with VXA products.
Fujitsu’s PRIMEPOWER models run the Solaris(TM) 7 operating system and provide levels of RAS (reliability, availability and serviceability) normally associated with corporate mainframe systems. Fujitsu’s stated reason for adopting VXA technology is that, like its servers, the VXA-1 tape drives provide the highest reliability and performance at the lowest price in their class. Using packet technology, the VXA-1 drive has exceptional data backup and restore capabilities and stores up to 66 GB per cartridge at 6 MB/sec (2:1 compression).
“Fujitsu’s OEM acceptance of VXA-1 is a key win for Ecrix,” said Bob Amatruda, research manager, IDC. “Ecrix’s VXA tape technology provides a complimentary fit for midrange servers and workstations and is a very good alternative to DDS.”
“We are very pleased to announce this relationship with Fujitsu,” said Kelly Beavers, president of Ecrix. “Fujitsu’s adoption of VXA-1 tape drives supports their commitment to reliable computer systems as well as substantiates VXA’s price performance advantage. With DDS products coming to the end of their lifecycle, we are experiencing accelerated interest in the VXA-1 from systems manufacturers.”
The Ecrix VXA-1 tape drive is immediately available on all Fujitsu GP-S Family and PRIMEPOWER Servers.
The VXA Advantage
Ecrix award-winning VXA data storage tape products offer an unprecedented combination of data capacity, performance, reliability and overall value for midrange servers and high-end workstations.
VXA tape products offer a superior read/write architecture that is designed for 100% data restore. Data is recorded in highly reliable Internet-like packets in lieu of large data blocks. The VXA products also capitalize on advanced metal evaporative media, which Ecrix markets under the brand name VXAtape.
Compatible with all major operating systems and backup applications, VXA-1 tape drives have received Microsoft’s “Designed for Windows” certification. They have also attained status as the preferred tape storage device for all major Linux server and workstation manufacturers. The VXA-1 is the most logical and economical choice to replace DDS DAT drives whose product cycles are coming to an end, giving users high-value tape backup systems with a solid performance growth path.
