NEWS BRIEFS
Fremont, CA — The MPLS Forum, an industry-wide association of leading networking and telecommunication companies focused on accelerating the deployment of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), today announced a series of major advances at its fourth Technical Committee meeting.
The Technical Committee kicked off this latest meeting with the key milestone announcement that it had established a formal communications relationship with the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
The MPLS Forum’s technical committee chair, Andrew G. Malis, chief technologist at Vivace Networks, led the meeting and said: “This meeting was a major success with many members making huge strides in key areas such as MPLS interoperability and protocol conformance testing. We also moved forward with contributions on RSVP-TE and LDP functional testing, Voice over MPLS, and MPLS framing over optical fiber.”
Other items covered during the two-day meeting included outlining the MPLS Forum’s objectives for 2001, discussing the results of recent performance and interoperability tests, and reviewing service providers’ requirements for implementing MPLS protocols. The Technical Committee also approved the final charters of the Forum’s two working groups — the Interoperability Working Group and the Applications and Deployment Working Group.
