NEWS BRIEFS
San Jose, CA — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA) today announced new lower pricing of its 1.3GB line of magneto-optical (MO) drives. The new 1.3GB series includes the DynaMO(R) 1300SF + USB, the DynaMO 1300FE, and the DynaMO 1300SZI drives. The DynaMO 1300SF + USB drive, a 1.3GB external MO drive with dual USB and SCSI interface, is now priced at $349. The high-end DynaMO 1300FE external FireWire(R) drive is now $429. In addition, the DynaMO 1300SZI drive, the internal SCSI kit, has been reduced to $339. Prices for the 640MB series of MO drives were recently lowered as well. With the DynaMO 640 series starting as low as $249, the DynaMO family has reached new levels of affordability.
DynaMO(TM) media prices have also been reduced to offer storage as low as 1.25 cents per megabyte. The MSRP for a 1.3GB disk is now only $20, while 640MB media is just $8 each. “The new lower prices on magneto-optical media makes MO storage a clear choice for any removable storage application,” commented Dan Dalton, director of MO storage products at Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “As the cost per megabyte of MO storage decreases, the benefits of using MO technology continue to increase.”
Steve Kruschen, otherwise known as consumer products expert Mr. Gadget(R), is a big advocate of the MO products. “I get great performance on my 1.3 GB FireWire and SCSI Fujitsu MO drives. I can use ANY of the smaller capacity disks in these drives and still get the fastest reading and writing speeds,” commented Mr. Gadget. “If you are looking for a reliable, stable and solid removable media platform and a great price on high-capacity removable media, it has been there all along — Fujitsu MO (Magneto Optical) has it all.”
The DynaMO 1300 series provides 1.3GB of removable and rewritable data capacity on a single 3.5-inch disk. Since the 1.3GB magneto-optical drives are backward compatible, they will read and write to 128MB, 230MB, 540MB, 640MB, and 1.3GB media. With an amazing transfer rate of up to 5.9MB/sec and fast seek times of up to 23ms, these drives are ideal for audio, video, and intensive graphic applications.
Availability
