NEWS BRIEFS
Research Triangle Park, NC — Porivo Technologies, Inc., a pioneer in the development of peer-to-peer, distributed computing technologies that improve Internet performance, today announced a partnership with The Daily Jolt ( http://www.dailyjolt.com ), the leading network of college-specific Web sites at 105 campuses, to promote its Porivo PEER(SM) technology to college students nationwide. The Porivo PEER enables users to contribute the spare capacity of their PCs to large-scale computing projects across the Internet, while turning their PC’s otherwise wasted resources into sweepstakes entries for cash and prizes.
The Daily Jolt network reaches more than 1.2 million students daily. Each Daily Jolt site is built and maintained by students on-campus, and driven by those who use it each day. Porivo will be The Daily Jolt’s exclusive partner in the peer-to-peer computing space. Beginning January 15, the partnership will promote the Porivo PEER at each campus in The Daily Jolt’s network, driving students to a co-branded Web interface to learn more about the Porivo PEER and register for the unique program.
Andrew Collins, CEO of The Daily Jolt, said, “There’s a natural fit between our companies – The Daily Jolt has built a distributed community of college sites, and Porivo is using distributed computing technology to link together PC users across the Internet to solve large-scale problems. By exposing The Daily Jolt’s tech-savvy student communities to the Porivo PEER, our users can benefit by turning their PC’s spare capacity into entries for cash and prizes. The `technographics’ of the college market is a great environment for Porivo’s technology.”
“The Daily Jolt’s deep reach into the college market will help Porivo quickly grow its large, stable and geographically diverse Porivo PEER network,” said Sam Kirby, Porivo’s VP of Marketing. “We believe that college students will find our monthly sweepstakes promotions an exciting way to capture the full value of their PC, offering cash prizes for otherwise wasted computing horsepower.”
Users that download and install the Porivo PEER will help test the performance of high-volume Web sites while they earn sweepstakes entries. Using otherwise wasted CPU and bandwidth resources, each Porivo PEER autonomously tests the performance of Web sites, returning valuable performance data that companies can use to optimize their Web site design, content distribution strategies and technical infrastructures. As a result, Porivo PEER users can help make a difference in the performance of the Internet.

Started by Amherst College students in 1998, the Daily Jolt network currently boasts participation of 105 colleges and universities.
About Porivo
Founded in 1999, Porivo is using its advanced peer-to-peer, distributed computing technology to develop powerful Internet infrastructure applications that measure and improve the performance of Web-based applications.
Porivo’s core technology can leverage the spare computing capacity of tens or hundreds of thousands of Porivo PEERs(SM) – individual users’ PCs across the country or around the world – working in unison to tackle immense computing tasks across the Internet, while earning sweepstakes entries for cash and prizes.
Porivo’s first product based on its unique technology is peerReview(SM), a distributed Web performance testing application that provides real-world analysis of Web site performance, from the end user’s perspective.
