Advanced Micro Devices disclosed a conservative road map for 45nm server processors using six and twelve cores through 2010. Lifting a page from the playbook of archrival Intel, the 12-core CPU will use two six-core die in a multichip package. Analysts said AMD’s updated road map should help it remain competitive with Intel while remaining appropriately conservative in the wake of AMD’s heavy financial losses and delays for its four-core Barcelona server CPU.
