The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is India’s premier research and development organization of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for carrying out R&D in IT, electronics and associated areas. The establishment of C-DAC in 1988 was to build supercomputers because of denial of export of supercomputers by the US. Since then, C-DAC has undertaken building of multiple generations of supercomputers starting with the 1 gigaflop PARAM system in 1988.
