As vendors reach out to Europe to extend cloud computing initiatives, they are finding a lack of established data centers to handle their initiatives and furthermore, restrictions based on the Patriot Act in the United States impede progress. The 451 Group suggests that another issue is that 99% of businesses in Europe are small to mid-sized, which can also present challenges for large firms delivering cloud computing options to Europe. Accordingly, most businesses are simply looking to their telecommunications companies to handle their needs versus a dedicated cloud services provider. This further emphases the need for nations to come together to address international policy barriers to greater cloud adoption.
