More government agencies worldwide are addressing the possibilities that their resources might be better spent if they look to the cloud to handle some particular functions but many are still slow to adopt for reasons of security. Ireland’s goverment is announcing it will test the cloud by implementing a new application that will cull together data on local planning data in XML format into a map so it can be used and updated by those with permissions and can then be accessed by all citizens for a real-time view of approval for housing and planning. This is a critical first step for Ireland who called cloud computing one of the “six pillars” of a new, smart economy.
