While conversations about grid computing performance are falling by the wayside, performance concerns are certainly not, especially as applications grow more demanding and high-performance infrastructure is tweaked to accomodate. Grid infrastructure is not, by nature, flexible–as a static resource, there is a continued push to make a static grid dynamic. Accordingly, companies like Platform Computing are making the private cloud functional in HPC by taking the already cloud-ish nature of grid and extending what’s available by making the process dynamic. This means that the dynamic grid is either using all available capacity or turning unused capacity around to increase performance.
