Testing web-based applications has often come with incredible expense, especially for cash-strapped smaller enterprises with major tests to run that required carting around serious server infrastructure for the purpose of running simulations. The game is changing, of course, since the cloud is opening up the opportunity for enterprise to enable massive compute power on an infrequent basis specifically for short-term, data-intensive jobs like testing. A few companies have emerged as leaders in the space, including SauceLabs–not to mention the broader appeal of EC2. Today, however, comes a new product from HP called LoadRunner in the Cloud, which leverages the power of EC2 to manage application testing. This marks a tentative step in the right direction for HP, whose cloud offerings have certainly not been on par with other companies to date but this one step could mean big things for the company as it rolls out future offerings.
