Cloud computing is a topic gaining traction in the enterprise but the questions certainly do not stop at the general borders of security and risk considerations. Application management is becoming an increasingly important issue as enterprises attempt to make decisions about where applications run–on in-house servers, in EC2 or another public cloud, or across a couple of VMs. Companies like Novell are stepping up to plate to help enterprises manage this dilemma with products like their Intelligent Workload Management offering. According to Javier Colado, head of Novell, in a presentation at a conference in Europe, companies would eventually have an in-house software stack, a virtual one, and one that resided in the cloud–a fact that would require immense, robust management solutions.
