The National Institute of Standards and Technology has been assigned the task of helping to accelerate the federal government’s adoption of the cloud by spearheading efforts to draft and refine new standards and guidelines pertaining to security for cloud computing. NIST is working to hasten cloud adoption at the federal level to keep in line with Kundra’s belief that it represents a new model for conducting business in a more cost-efficient manner. NIST is partnering with agencies and standard development organizations to set forth regulations on how data is sent into the cloud, what the enviornment (storage and infrastructure) needs to be, and how to best address other smaller gaps in security with specific task groups.
