Based on the results of a survey of “inter experts and other internet users” Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project projected that by 2020 most applications will live in the cloud, thus users will have a hybrid desktop; a physical machine that is in large majority based on web-centered applications. The Center notes that although their projection for the future of cloud is bright, “cloud computing has many difficult hurdles to overcoe, including concerns tied to the availability of broadband spectru, the ability for diverse systems to work together and security, privacy and quality of service.”
