IBM has opened one of its most extensive software development campusis in the United States in Massachusetts with the distinct aim of expanding cloud-based software development initiatives to better serve enterprise customers. The cloud is the focus of the new center of development activity and the focus is not just on large, complex enterprise applications but also on the more mainstream front. One of the declared focus areas will be on social media analytics, for instance, which might also be relevant to large-scale enterprises as they take advantage of the cloud to further their Web 2.0 (or is officially 3.0 yet?) goals. The campus is one of 70 labs worldwide and “contains 31 miles of copper and fiberoptic wiring for data networking, virtualization and power monitoring.”
