As reported, IBM has secured two new cloud-driven intitatives in Asia, including one with Nippon Life Insurance of Tokyo and an animation cloud in cooperation with Malaysian firm MDeC. Although the financial terms of these agreements were not made public, there is no doubt, especially given the amped-up amount of news coming from Big Blue, that it is taking cloud computing opportunities seriously. Other recent announcements, including the news that it will be partnering with the University of Missouri on a genomics cloud project, indicate that IBM is seeking inroads in the cloud market via projects rather than bold declarations of intent. According to a statement by IBM, the company feels that cloud-based enviornments for testing and development are key to helping enterprises cut costs signficantly, hence the recent focus on these exact sorts of environments.
