The opening ceremony for the ISC21 Student Cluster Competition reveals slate of competitors that includes an astounding seven current or former Overall Champion award winners. This competition is stacked, racked, and packed when it comes to be-medaled contenders. So who’s going to be there?
CHPC: the plucky South African team has competed at eight ISC tournaments and scored Gold four times, Silver twice, and Bronze twice.
Tsinghua University: this is the most dominate cluster competition in the world today with 22 major competition appearances, ten Gold Medals, five Silvers, and two Bronze Medals. When it comes to ISC, Tsinghua is in a deadlock with CHPC for dominance with each having earned four Gold Medals at the event.
National Tsinghua University (NTHU): the team from Taiwan has competed 18 times, including at the very first student cluster competition in Reno in 2007. They’ve taken home four Gold Medals, two Silvers, two Bronze, and four LINPACK Awards. They come to play.
University of Science & Technology of China (USTC): has attended the big dance eight times, taking home a Gold at SC16, two Silver, two Bronze, and a LINPACK Award along the way. Definitely a contender.
Nanyang Technological University: this team hails from Singapore and has appeared in 13 previous bigtime tourneys. They’ve collected one Gold Medal, three Silver, and three LINPACK Awards.
Sun Yat-Sen University: They’ve competed in eight events and brought home the coveted Gold Medal at ASC13 and also nabbed two LINPACK Awards. With their solid finish at the recently concluded ASC21 competition, they could be a real threat at ISC21.
Jinan University: came out of nowhere to win the ASC21 competition, beating the ever-dominant Tsinghua University and a slate of 18 other strong competitors. They’re the newest champion, so maybe they can bring that momentum to ISC21 and go for another win.
We’ll be covering the rest of the field in succeeding articles and, of course, doing video meetings with all of the teams. We’ll also meet the coaches, talk about the applications, and, for the first time ever, seed the teams in true sports fan fashion.
So check out the ISC21 opening ceremony and get geared up for another fantastic cluster competition. Stay tuned for more info and developments.
