CSRA Unveils Next Generation HPC Service Model

FALLS CHURCH, Va.Nov. 2 — As the demand to accelerate the processing of large amounts of data continues to increase and environments converge to integrate additional capabilities, CSRA Inc. (NYSE: CSRA) is pairing next-gen IT capabilities with high-performance computing (HPC) services to enable government agencies to digest and process information at a faster pace. Using supercomputing technology, government users can make more rapid and informed decisions about some of the most pressing missions in climate change, scientific research and space exploration.

CSRA’s next-gen HPC service model is an end-to-end solution that supports a much broader spectrum of HPC customer needs within a common and more cost-effective infrastructure. The company’s HPC services leverage data analytics to increase the speed and efficiency of information processing as well as cloud computing for scalability. Cloud computing also allows customers to take advantage of a pay-as-you-go service for surge requirements. To address the evolving HPC landscape, CSRA designed a unified, three-tiered architecture that can be scaled over time to address current and future needs. The three-tiered approach provides customers with cost savings, customizable and flexible workloads and optimized performance.

In alignment with the National Strategic Computing Initiative (NSCI), an executive order issued by the White House in July 2015, CSRA has continued to invest and expand its HPC capabilities to meet the growing demand of government agencies in the intelligence, national security and civilian communities. The company is vendor agnostic, but has developed strategic partnerships with leading technology companies to gain deeper insights into the future marketspace and access to technology roadmaps.

CSRA provides HPC services to a variety of government defense, health and civil agencies, including:

  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) – supporting both the NASA Advanced Supercomputing center at NASA Ames California where supercomputer applications include space launch system development, fuel efficient aircraft design, and astrophysics and the NASA Center for Climate Simulation at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Marylanddelivering climate and weather modeling support;
  • Alabama Supercomputer Authority – delivering HPC and education network services to 550 universities, colleges, K-12 school systems and libraries through the Alabama Supercomputer Authority;
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Scientific Computing ­– supporting the modernization of the nations’ public health surveillance and diagnosis capabilities for infectious diseases through the design, implementation and support of scientific HPC and scale data management solutions;
  • High Performance Computing Modernization Program Integrated Technical Services – helping service all five DoD Supercomputing Resource Centers as a subcontractor to SAIC;
  • National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Genomics Cloud Pilot – leveraging HPC services (in partnership with the Institute for Systems Biology and Google) to support flexible cancer research to enable computational biologists to securely aggregate data that describes cancer patients genomes and rapidly identify genes that are different;
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – providing comprehensive HPC systems integration, testing and development services at various NOAA facilities to enhance the development of new weather and climate models;
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Information Technology – managing, planning, procuring, installing and operating expansions for the NIH Biowulf supercomputing cluster to help NIH researchers make important advances in the biomedical field pertaining to genomics, image processing, statistical analysis and other areas. This multi-phase project will increase the supercomputing power available to NIH researchers by 1200 percent in four years.
