DE-CIX Dallas Becomes Part of SCinet at SC22

DALLAS, Nov. 14, 2022 — DE-CIX, the world’s leading carrier and data center neutral Internet Exchange (IX) operator, has announced that its IX platform in Dallas has been included in this year’s SCinet network design. Designed and created each year for the conference, SCinet is a global collaboration of high-performance networking experts who provide the fastest and most powerful volunteer-built network in the world for the SC Conference. This year, SC22, the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis takes place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas from November 13-18, 2022.

Selected as a network service partner for the event for the first time, DE-CIX Dallas already boasts connections with local research and university (R&E) networks such as the ARE-ON, LEARN, LONI and OneNet. This is in addition to the numerous other R&E networks already connected to DE-CIX via the company’s New York and Richmond IXs.  The services for SCinet are considered a donation and in return, DE-CIX Dallas’ infrastructure is showcased and used to support up to 2 terabits per second of peak network traffic during the conference.

Since SC91, SCinet has provided conference attendees and the HPC community with the innovative network platform necessary to connect, transport, and display HPC research at SC from around the world. In addition to high-performance demos, SCinet supports wired and wireless connections for attendees to maintain connectivity to the rest of the world.  Each year, a committee of industry experts convene to review technical specifications and network options available for the location of the SC conference.  The one-of-a-kind, multi-vendor network is referred to as the Network Operations Center (NOC) at the conference, displaying the latest commercial equipment used to run this high-performance network with tens of millions of dollars worth of equipment loaned or donated every year from vendors all over the world.

“According to the SuperComputing organization, during the week of SC, SCinet becomes the most powerful and advanced network on Earth,” commented Ed d’Agostino, VP and General Manager for DE-CIX North America. “Launched in 2016 – just six years ago – DE-CIX Dallas has now grown to be among the top 20 IXPs in the US with more than 125 network connections; it is by far the largest neutral IXP in the Southwest, and is now the first IX to power the largest conference network backbone supporting High Performance Computing. It’s an honor to be part of this massive effort.”

DE-CIX Dallas is accessible from more than 11 colocation and data center facilities in the market. The SCinet network interconnects with DE-CIX Dallas at DataBank, 400 S. Akard.

DE-CIX Dallas is Open-IX certified and the largest carrier and data center neutral IX serving the south-central region and among the top 20 exchanges across North America. DE-CIX Dallas is connected to DE-CIX’s other IXs in the United States, including Chicago, New York, Phoenix, and Richmond. One connection at any DE-CIX IX in North America offers access to any network connected to DE-CIX with reach to over 400 networks. DE-CIX’s GlobePEER Remote capabilities include extended reach to DE-CIX IXs in Europe, offering access to over 2,600 global networks. DE-CIX operates Internet Exchanges in over 40 metropolitan regions and interconnects networks from more than 100 countries.
