DENVER, Colo., Nov. 18 — Dot Hill Systems Corp., a leading provider of SAN storage solutions, today announced it will be showcasing its AssuredSAN solutions for high performance computing (HPC) environments this week at the Supercomputing Conference (SC13) taking place at the Colorado Convention Center. Spotlighting the most advanced scientific and technical applications in the world, SC13 brings together the international supercomputing community, featuring exhibits of the latest and greatest technologies from industry, academia and government research organizations.
“Dot Hill is a serious player in HPC environments and our products deliver high performance, excellent overall value, as well as the ability to scale for use in large system environments,” said Ken Day, chief technology officer, Dot Hill. “For example, Dot Hill’s latest product implements 12Gb SAS network connectivity with 4 lanes per port, which is faster than both 16Gb Fibre Channel and 10Gb iSCSI. When connected to server nodes, our SAS storage arrays eliminate costly switches, and enable modular scale-out using Infiniband through a distributed file system such as Lustre. The result is better performance, lower cost, and a flexible architecture that can grow for demanding computational tasks.”
Dot Hill storage solutions have long been implemented in HPC environments the world over, including Italy’s Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN). Partnering with leading manufacturers, such as E4 Computer Engineering, Dot Hill designs storage solutions that address the demanding requirements of HPC architectures. E4, a longtime Dot Hill customer and the leading Italian manufacturer for HPC environments, was one of only 14 companies, and the only IT company, to be recognized this year with the INFN Recognition of Excellence award. In its SC13 exhibit at booth #3620, E4 will be demonstrating its new appliance for Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software, which is being marketed with Dot Hill storage solutions.
“Our appliance for Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software meets the strict requirements of scientific and enterprise environments, and allows organizations of all sizes to scale efficiently and easily thanks in part to Dot Hill’s high-bandwidth storage solutions,” said Cosimo Gianfreda, CTO of E4 Computer Engineering. “Dot Hill storage solutions deliver the high levels of performance and reliability that our customers demand, and their personalized support allows us to provide organizations with superior service.”
“High performance computing and data analytics are a key focus in our marketing strategy,” said Jim Jonez, senior director of marketing, Dot Hill Systems. “Dot Hill AssuredSAN storage solutions are highly reliable and offer proven 99.999 percent availability, for round-the-clock access to data, which is essential for HPC environments. Our AssuredSAN Pro 5000 real-time tiering solutions and our new, wicked-fast AssuredSAN 4004 Series offer superior performance, as validated by multiple third parties and real-world installations. Through innovative, patented technologies, Dot Hill is able to deliver storage solutions that help our partners achieve faster breakthroughs in research, analytics, genomics and other HPC-related areas.”
Attendees can visit Dot Hill at Exhibit #4119 to see the AssuredSAN Pro 5000 40 terabyte real-time tiering solution in action. The company will also offer two new complementary solutions briefs – “The Modern HPC Storage Architecture,” and “High Bandwidth File Serving for Linux and Windows Computing” -providing key insights on properly designing and sizing data storage systems to meet the requirements of HPC and data analytics environments.
AssuredSAN 5000 Pro Series: Seriously Smart, Real-Time Tiered Storage for HPC
The AssuredSAN Pro 5000 Series takes tiered storage to a new level – beyond competitors’ batch migration schemes and into a new era of autonomic, real-time data tiering. The AssuredSAN Pro 5000 automatically manages ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ data in real-time to deliver storage performance when it’s needed most. Powered by Dot Hill RealStor technology, the AssuredSAN Pro 5000 responds minute-by-minute to changes in data requirements, moving the most heavily accessed data up to the SSD tier, while detecting less active data and moving it to a lower tier. This data migration happens in real-time, without policy setting and human intervention.
AssuredSAN 4004 Series: High Performance and Data Availability that HPC Customers Need
All Dot Hill AssuredSAN 4004 solutions are built using the company’s ninth-generation RAID stack, which delivers up to 100,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) from disk, sustained sequential read performance of up to 6400 MB/second and writes of up to 5300 MB/second. The Dot Hill RAID Companion Processor (RCP) allows 4004 solutions to deliver dramatic performance gains at very aggressive price points. AssuredSAN 4004 solutions also integrate all the performance tuning and optimizations of previous-generation AssuredSAN 4000 models, which include streaming performance optimization to handle randomized, sequential workloads. Dot Hill’s latest firmware utilizes a proprietary Adaptive Read-ahead Algorithm that analyzes workloads and fine tunes options to optimize the performance of specific kinds of demanding workloads, delivering better response times and meeting IT service level agreements.
